A housekeeper has domestic duties only and may be called a cleaner. Duties include: cooking and cooking for dinner parties, laundry, ironing, cleaning silverware, bathrooms, making beds, vacuuming, gardening, driving, domestic shopping etc.

A nanny housekeeper working alongside a parent may focus on housekeeping and have fewer duties with the children. Their duties here may be more of a back-up childcare solution.

A nanny housekeeper will have a balance between domestic duties and care of the children. This balance is entirely up to the family. Nanny housekeepers duties may include; cooking, laundry, ironing, cleaning silverware, bathrooms, vacuuming etc, childcare assistance to a parent, sole charge nanny, plus baby-sitting.

A nanny housekeeper may live with a family or live out and work part time or 5 to 6 days per week for 10 to 12 hours per day.

How much will it cost to employ a nanny housekeeper or housekeeper?

  • A part time housekeeper rate or nanny-housekeeper salary in London is £7 to £12 per hour. You may be expected to pay tax and NI on top of this. This salary or rate is dependent on experience and the hours required. Part time nanny-housekeepers and housekeeper rates outside of London are £6 to £10 per hour.
  • A full time live out nanny-housekeeper and housekeeper salary in London is an average of £400 net per week. This salary may go up to £600 per week dependant on hours, duties, number and age of children, experience and qualifications.
  • A full time live out nanny-housekeeper and housekeeper salary outside London is on average of £250 net per week. This may go up to £550 per week dependent on duties etc.
  • A full time live in nanny-housekeeper and housekeeper salary in London is on average of £314 per week. This salary may go up to £600 per week dependant on duties, hours, number and age of children, experience and qualifications.
  • A full time live in nanny-housekeeper and housekeeper salary outside London is on average of £250 per week. This salary may go up to £600 per week.
