Before you start searching for your perfect full time nanny or part time nanny there are few basics that you need to know.
The nanny basics

Remember, if you hire a nanny you become their employer. A nanny may be self employed if she or he is working for two or more families at separate times.
A nanny should have:
- A current police check or CRB disclosure .
- A current paediatric first aid certificate.
- Contactable verbal references from previous childcare positions.
- A nanny may have qualifications but this is not essential.
- You must ask to see photo ID and originals of all documents.
PART TIME NANNY
- A part time nanny salary in London is £7 to £12 per hour. You may be expected to pay tax and NI on top of this. This nanny salary is dependent on experience, the nanny’s duties and hours the nanny works.
- An afterschool nanny salary is normally £9 to £12. Afterschool nannies are hard to find. A nanny salary for a nanny who works two full 10 or 12 hour days will be £8 to £11 per hour. A nanny working 2 full days is able to find another job the 3 remaining days per week.
- A nanny with 5 to 10 + years of experience will expect a higher hourly rate than a nanny with only 1 or 2 years experience. As will a nanny with higher qualifications, e.g. a teacher or Montessori trained nanny.
- Part time nannies outside of London earn £6 to £10 net per hour.
- A part time nanny can work mornings, afternoons or all day for 10 to 12 hours. A part time nanny’s duties include the care of the children, helping with homework, perhaps light housework if there is time, organizing play dates, school collection, bath time and bedtime.
A FULL TIME NANNY
- Full time nannies work 50 to 60 hours per week 5 or 6 days per week. A live in nanny will have two week nights babysitting included in her salary.
- A full time live out nanny’s salary in London is around £400 net per week. This nanny salary may go up to £600 net per week dependant on nanny duties, hours, number and age of children, experience and qualifications.
- A full time live out nanny outside London costs an average of £250 per week plus Tax and NI. This salary may go up to £550 net per week.
- A full time live in nanny in London earns an average of £314 net per week. This may go up to £600 net per week dependant on hours, number and age of children, experience and qualifications.
- Full time, live in nanny salaries outside London cost on average £250 per week buy can go up to £600 per week.
- Full time nanny’s duties include all things related to the children: cooking, children’s washing, changing linen, helping with homework, potty training, weaning, bottle sterilization, teaching to speak and read, perhaps light housework if they are willing, organizing play dates, school collection, education, music practice, bath time and bedtime etc.
