About Findababysitter.com
Findabysitter.com launched in 2006 and is the e-baby of founders Tom Harrow and Vanessa Cook. The FAB service re-launched in July 2009, with the UK’s first geo-coded database of over 25,000 local childcare candidates. The UK wide child care database is searchable using the latest mapping technology. The easy to use website enables family’s to find their own childcare without the expense of an agency.
Parents can quickly find and connect with child care candidates that live and work locally, including Babysitters, Nannies, Au Pairs, Childminders, Nanny Housekeepers , Housekeepers and much more.
Parents can sign up for free and search for candidates that meet their own specific requirements including their perfect candidate’s childcare experience, languages, qualifications, availability, and proximity to their own postcode or location. Parents can choose from a range of affordable price plans when they need to contact candidates that have applied for childcare jobs.
The FAB service enables child care givers to actively search and find local childcare work by applying to jobs posted by FAB families and inviting parents to view their FAB profile page.
Findababysitter.com is completely free for childcarers to sign up and search for local nanny or babysitting jobs.
The FAB mission
The FAB mission is to make the experience of searching for childcare as simple and as safe as possible for parents, childcare candidates, and childcare agencies.
We understand that there are families who prefer an agency, and there are families who for financial reasons prefer to conduct their own childcare search.
For parents we aim to provide the tools needed to fulfill very specific childcare requirements without the expense of agency (agency fees can be between £500 and £3000 or more). We do not vet candidates, we provide you with all the information you need to do the vetting yourself. This way we pass the saving on to you.
Our moderators approve every single new user profile and job before it goes live to help protect you against unscrupulous internet scammers and inappropriate content but we still advise you to be vigilant and protect yourself.
We wanted families to be able to say “I need a French speaking nanny with a drivers license and a CRB within 2 miles of my home.” And have a choice of childcarers. That’s exactly what you can do with FAB.
We also wanted to provide a service for childcare agencies to find candidates for their client families. We understand your clients have very specific and pressured requirements and we wanted to bring you a platform that is local, efficient, fast, user friendly and inexpensive so you can find excellent candidates and conduct your business swiftly.
FAB management
Vanessa Cook / co-founder
Vanessa is a former nanny, successful business woman, and a new mother.
Vanessa launched UK nanny agency Little Ones back in 2005. Little Ones has grown to become the UK's leading agency specialising in bi-lingual nanny placements, with a team of ten consultants specialising in over 20 international languages.
Little Ones puts both candidate and client safety first and takes great care to only recommend nannies with the highest standard of care and experience for placement with client families. Clients include high profile businessmen and women, international royalty and celebrities.
Over the years running Little Ones, Vanessa identified a market for family’s to find their own childcare without the expense of an agency. When setting up Findababysitter.com, Vanessa’s first thoughts were again for childcare safety and affordability.
Vanessa is an executive committee member of The Association of Nanny Agencies (ANA) and is widely regarded as an expert in childcare and childcare recruitment.
Tom Harrow / co-founder
Tom Harrow is a new father, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Findababysitter.com.
Tom launched www.findababysitter.com in 2006 with co founder Vanessa Cook. With Tom’s technical knowledge and expertise the FAB service has grown in to a powerful consumer platform, utilizing the latest geo-tagging search technology to connect parents with childcare candidates.
Tom is passionate about emerging web technologies and social media, and its potential to engage and empower consumers. Tom discovered his love of web technology in 1997 when he taught himself HTML and built his first website.
Tom’s began his career as a web developer and lead developer for top web companies and agencies in New Zealand and London. His career developed quickly in to project and product management where he delivered multi-million pound projects for companies including FT.com and Microsoft.
Ben Ferrier / marketing director
Ben is 2 year old Dotty’s dad and founder of St Albans half-pint Sunday club.
Ben joined FAB in January 2010, with seven years of marketing and brand management at PhotoBox.co.uk, where he was instrumental in taking the business from a start up to Europe’s market leading online photo printing service.
Ben spent two years at Eyestorm.com, an online limited edition fine art print retailer that emerged out of the dot com boom.
He has a background in fine art, loves painting with baby Dot, and would love to hear your creative ideas.
Investors
Findababysitter.com is backed by the New Zealand based PHC Group. FAB closed a second round of funding with the PHC Group in January 2010. This second round of investment will be used to develop European services and to continue providing an exceptional best in class childcare service for UK customers.
